Lucky postcodes across Golspie were being thanked this week by East Sutherland Wheelers, who has been awarded funding from People’s Postcode Trust to buy club kit.

This project is aiming to support the areas young cyclists by providing them team kit to give them a sense of belonging and identity and also to enable them participate in races and represent the East Sutherland area. We hope that by introducing the sport to young people a number of them will continue to enjoy cycling and become part of the club.

The funding was awarded by People’s Postcode Trust, the grant giving body of People’s Postcode Lottery. People’s Postcode Trust Advisor Clare Oliver said “People’s Postcode Trust were thrilled to award £1285 to ‘Be part of the Team’-project of East Sutherland Wheelers. The project is one which will hugely benefit the surrounding community, and People’s Postcode Trust is delighted to be a part of it.  People’s Postcode Trust is entirely funded by People’s Postcode Lottery.  40p from every single ticket is awarded to charities, and People’s Postcode Trust has already received more than £2.1 million, which has funded 428 projects across Great Britain.”

Project Manager and club secretary Wim Chalmet said “After receiving a start-up grant from Sutherland Sports Council earlier this year we’re so pleased to have been successful in this application that enables us to to buy club kit. We’d like to say a massive thank you to the People’s Postcode Trust, as this will make such a difference to us, and the local community”.
